I guess I won't argue with your assessment that "nothing can touch DMB" when the only music you have ever been exposed to is DMB!! Saying that Phish doesn't have the musical ability of DMB is silly. Clearly, you simply do not listen to Phish. Maybe we can talk about a Hendrix or the Doors concert next?!!?!?!?! As I said, I own records of both and have been to both concerts, and it's just no contest. You bring up a good point though, about DMB having to "tone down" their songs so they can get radio airplay. DMB IS run by his label/agent to a much greater degree than Phish is. Back to my earlier analogy about the 9-3, you could throw a sport exhaust on the autobox DMB 9-3, try to make it sound a little better, get some radio airplay, but when you really want to run with the big dogs, well - they don't make a viggen with an autobox. and the Phish manual box will still win.
