I thought the rear end 'Japanese-robot-meets-hip-hop-meets-american-suburbia' styling of the Altimas and G35s was supposed to be one of the big attractions of these cars. I agree they are over the top. They will look dated and old in less than two years and all the press they are getting now will be remembered as sort of a fad, except for the fact that the engines are right on the current trend of more-more-more horsepower. Anway, for some reason the G35 reminds me of a roller skating rink with all of its small red lights in a row.
As for the 7 series, I think me and, like, one other person defended the design when we had this discussion a few months back. I don't know. I still think it is very progressive in incorporating somehow early twentieth century high brow (but non Bauhaus) design, say, something out of the 1930s, with some sort of futuristic look. Sales also have seemed to go especially well in the US, this with what I think is the truest picture of 'current' high brow euro car design, carrying over from other design areas onto the 7. It's funny to see all of the suburban CEO/CFO types driving a car that their German counterparts are also driving.
