Old Japanese Design Did Have Its Cool Moments...

I think the more recent Japanese designs seem well enough when first released and then almost immediately look dated or dull--like the recent round of Acuras! God, What ugly cars from such an all around 'decent' company! Those TL/CL/RL/MDX/RSX are really B-A-D --Gimme a friggin' Accord. The recent Lexii, too, seem quite bad, though, funnily the very first LS 400 from 1990 seems not so bad with its pretty Mondrian box-like lights in the back. The mid 80s 4 door Honda Accord, too, is a true classic in my book, a real utilitarian design that echoes the better qualities of the Volvo 240. And, the Toyotas and Datsuns of the mid 70s are also really quite cool. I love they're funky, often hatch-back shapes with all of their thick black rubber padding all over the place to prevent dings. Also, they used CRAZY color schemes back then, stuff that they never used in Japan, where until about five years ago, every friggin' car on their road was white (95%) or dark gray metallic (5%). Anyway, remember the 70s Toyotas and Datsuns with, like, flat bright orange paint with an all black interior, or camouflage green with golden brown interior. COOL!
I guess b/c I was a little kid in the mid/late 70s I appreciate the Japanese car designs from this area b/c they remind me so much of all those moveable plastic robots from Japan that I played with for years and years and years!!
