The block is cast and machined at GM's engine plant in Kaiserslautern, (but identical blocks are cast and machined in Terrytown, NY!) The block is shipped to Saab's engine plant, where it is assembled using a die cast head (non-supercharged engines get a sand cast block), unique pistons, rods, crank (forged, not cast), and of course, the turbocharger and unique inlet plenum.
Parts are sourced from hither and yon. The Mulroony sticker lists the country of vehicle assembly, country of transmission assembly, the country where the majority of engine parts are made, and the percentage of USA content. This is done so UAW members know which cars to boycott.
