At the risk of dousing ice water on this conversation -- go to http://www.brickboard.com and read up on the 960 series. There is even a 700/900 FAQ that may be helpful to you: http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/.

The 960 is a very nice and safe car; but a 940, or a 940 turbo, is probably much easier to live with. The 960, esp. an early one like a 1992, can be very maintenance-heavy and super expensive. There is a porous black issue with the 91 and 92 models, so look out for that.
