I remember stuff like that.
In the early 70s you could buy early- to mid-'60s Ferraris for $5-7K--about the same price as a new Porsche. Now look at their value. Of course you would have had to buy it and mostly store it for it to be worth a lot today, not driven it.
When I was in the Navy ('68 to '72) most of the pilots I knew all had Porsches, E-Types, Corvettes and Shelby Cobras. One guy had a Porsche 906 GTS--basically a race car. One had a Ferrari-- a 250 Berlinetta, IIRC.
Then there's the guy in my town with about $13M worth of Ferraris in his barn, along with a couple of gorgeous old Packards.
