(I gotta stop hanging with these guys....)
How about 426 RWHP pushing 1,900 lbs? Good math, eh?
Yikes. Two of my high octane blooded friends recently completed their winter project of tearing down the engine of one friend's new Lotus Exige, beefing up every component possible, and turbocharging it. With it's original 190HP the thing was a very nice, dedicated sports car. But now?... oh boy.
Their target was to double the power output. Oops, they overshot that. After 93 dyno runs, the tuner finally nailed the optimal ECU settings. Result is 426HP at the wheels. Estimated crank HP is around 475. This from 1.8 liters.
I've not seen the car since completion, but I'm told the first 4 gears provide "ludicrous" acceleration. And surprisingly good pavement bite in everything other than 1st gear. His plans are to race this lightweight beast... it will not be street driven anymore. Will be interesting to see how long it can hold together...
