Volvo style.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Volvo C30 - Saab needs to make like this, OhSaabIaOh, Fri, 31 Aug 2007 08:03:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Swedish design has always been at the forefront and I've always admired Volvo styling. When the first 850's came out I began to realize the tight, consistent Volvo styling themes were more than an accident. I think the S40 is an outstanding design, and the C30 derivation is so modern, but at the same time pays homage to the P1800ES.
Volvo's size has always made it more possible for them to have a much broader model line with many more variations. Volvo was at the leading edge of the "crossover" with the V70 Cross Country and the S60R with 300hp and AWD thumped the Saab Aero pretty soundly in some respects.
Ford has been much more careful about protecting the brand integrity than GM. Nothing that I can identify has made it from the Ford parts bin into a Volvo. On the contrary, the Volvo influence is touted by Ford. Haven't seen GM do that. No rebadge from Volvo for a sport ute, but instead the inspired XC90's, more of that glorious Volvo styling.
Don't get me wrong, if I wanted a Volvo I'd own one, I prefer Saabs, but if I was sentenced to an eternity of Volvos, life wouldn't bee too bad.....
