Not really answering your question (I'm also interested in what people think of the V70 driving-wise), but some interesting observations "on paper"...
You wouldn't know it to look at them, but the 9-5 sportcombi is actually very slightly bigger than a V70: 1/2" longer and a touch more hauling capacity, seats up + down... The 9-5 also weighs more, although with AWD, the V70 is about the same! Again, I was surprised...
Engine wise, the 2007 9-5's 2.3T gets more hp and more torque than all the V70s except the R even though they are larger displacement... fuel economy specs are similar (but the R is significantly worse)...
I was also surprised how similar the Passat wagon is to the V70 on paper. I always thought of them as a little smaller, or just that V70 looks huge... must be psychological! That said, I knew someone with a Passat who traded it in because it felt too big...
The data I'm referring to is from the 2007 model year.
really a shame the newest 9-5's got that bastardized exterior treatment... wonderful cars...
Good luck with your sludge problem! hopefully it's not too bad...
James...
