Doesn't look like the sludge will cost me my 9-3, just a little (errr... lot of) money.
Now that you mention it the Passat doesn't look like it is that much different on the road. I think we all just mentally go back to the 80's-90's when a Volvo wagon looked HUGE compared to everything else on the road. In the meantime though with the rise of SUVs and the upsizing of VW/Audi everyone else caught up.
Totally see the point on the 9-5 too, I just don't like the look of the wagon. Something about the C/D pilar area bothers me and no matter how nice the inside is I can't get past that. That and after this sludge incident I don't think I could ever justify spending money on a related engine. When it works I've been very happy with the performance/economy combination of my 9-3's engine, but the problems have definitely outweighed that.
