My wife's girlfriend just got a new 2010 Jetta TDI, lipstick red with a DSG and a roof. Coached her on purchasing. Barely/not even a $1,000 ish discount on a $25,675 list car, no rebates or financing specials. She does get a $1,300 tax credit from the State of California like a hybrid would. And VW's have 3/36 free maintenance.
Mexican built, black "pleather" interior, but nicely done with perforations in the seat, manual seats with only an electric height adjustment, really nice VW interior with big nav like radio screen, the triple climate control knob setup, great instruments, multi-function programmable display between the dials, tilt and telescope wheel, steering wheel controls, but I didn't see any shift paddles. Big back seat, sat behind myself with lots more rear leg room than a 9-3SS as I remember, and a 120v outlet in the back? Split fold down seats with seatback locks.
I assume the DSG is the twin-clutch, though it felt just like an automatic. Drive or Sport plus a manual gate. Huge torque, only 140hp but 236 ft/lbs gives effortless glide, not zingy excitement. Typical snubbed VW ride.
Really good choice I thought, far, far preferable to any hybrid.
