FWIW, I ran aftermarket 16x7 wheels on my '86 900S lowered with Jamex springs with no problems. The wheel offset was +42mm. I used 5mm spacers in back, nothing up front. By and large, the reason the spacers were added out back were to keep the tires (205/55-16 - yes, too large, but good comfort) from binding against suspension parts when the rear end was totally unloaded and the axle shifted sideways (panhard rod). Honestly, I think a +40mm offset would have been fine, but a 5mm spacer is what I had.
I think BobD is on the right track - and a +35mm offset should be very close to ideal.
