genuinesaab.com recommends against platinum metal plugs with HO ECUs and recommends BPCR7ES with larger gap settings (not reduced). At high output, the small diameter electrodes of the platinum plugs will make the ECU see more plasma conductivity than expected and it can then reduce boost as it thinks that knocking condtions are being approached. A cooler (#7) also helps as hotter electrodes also will cause the ECU to do the same at these high boost levels. Ground electrodes can be modified/hacked to reduce flame kernel shrouding and reduce surface area that picks up heat... small improvement, but seems to help in some circumstances. Not done very often. Don't ignore the impact of fuel octane and aquired octane demand created by fouled injectors and combustion chambers. High intake temperatures are also part of whats going on, and high boost through an OEM IC can create issues. Water injection helps on a T5, but T7 results seem to be mixed/marginal and not really recommended. I guess the message is that the trionic APC can start to get faked out at high boost levels and there are things that can be done to reduce that effect.
