makes ALLLLLLL the difference and has finally cured that bog off idle these cars always seemed to have. Mid range torque is MUCH better and frankly in day to day driving you won't even get to the high end of things because the car pulls so much better from 1500 rpm to 3500 than it did before. My turbo is unchanged but I also used a 2.1 head/manifold on my block and used brand new 900S pistons which I paid to have balanced to within 1 gram. My CR is higher than the old dished turbo pistons would give, but using the 2.1 head actually lowers the CR again a little. I also went for 25# injectors and a 3.0 bar fuel press. reg.
Honestly, this was a cheap rebuild and I am very pleased with it after the oil seal disaster was solved...(see my posts from a few months ago and don't make the same mistake).
Fuel consumption is about the same to slightly better...now getting 30mpg regularly instead of 27-28 on my tired old motor.
This is a very doable upgrade and avoids what's required to get 20psi boost on a lower CR engine. Of course it's not as fast as other creations on this board, but it is way more fun and more drivable than stock, and the power pours on evenly with no tranny breaking torque spikes. I am running boost with the APC system at about 10psi max according to my boost guage.
Good luck.
