everything I've ever seen/read/heard says around 12.2:1 -> 12.5:1 is where the sweet spot is going to be for a well timed/tuned gasoline SI engine that's running right, give or take a tenth or two either which way.
That's not to say that you can't make a bunch of power outside of that range, or that there aren't perfectly valid reason to run outside of that either, but it is where your efficiencies will likely meet and near where max power will be found. Also doesn't say the next post after mine won't say that 11:1 to 11.5 to one is better because of whatever reason (extra cooling is ususually one of the main run-real-rich arguments)... also depends upon where you're measuring from and what you're measuring with.
