Seems as a teenager he bought an old '50's era Buick. Roadmaster perhaps. Whatever, the gist of the story is that he wanted to go racing, but he has this 4500lb car. So he proceeds to remove virtually all the chrome off this whale. Bumpers, grill, side moldings. He removes the back seat, headliner, pasenger seat, **driver's seat** to be replaced by a wooden crate he rivets into the floorboard. Ends up with a car that is indeed lighter, something like 3500 lobs, but so oversprung that it's like driving a helium balloon down the road!
He had a lighted, straight eight Buick that was indeed fast, but so uncontrollable that he almost killed himself in the process. Of course I can't hold a candle to his writing abilities, you HAVE to read this story. It was a funny read.
