My car ran the 271whpsae and 222whp uncorrected. After more talking with racers and shops, some suggested the numbers could very well be very close and went on to say that some Na cars up here can loose as much as 40%hp...Numbers from 25-30% are very realistic some people said. It was suggested my car, being a low compression engine looses 25% or more before turbo boost and from 10-15% with the turbo spooling up depending on the day...More so than at sea-level it seems, the density altitude can be as high as 9000' when its hot and the pressure is low and as good as 2000' when its cool and the pressure is high... If its really 10-15% it would be from 244whp to 255whp.
There is a difference in each car, the mixture, sw, hw and it all comes into play. These guys that own the shop do nothing but race for their living and their fun... They go down to Pueblo at 3500-4000' and notice a nice gain in power... They have customers that go to sea-level and race there... They seem to know what they are talking about and assure me the numbers are close... Could they be using the sae correction knowing they give exagerated numbers... I am not sure, the only way to really know is to get down to sea-level and find a dynojet... Nick did tell me one customer, who dynoed at the shop with an evo, went to California and had his dyno done there... Both were sae numbers and both were within 5whp...
This is not concrete evidence or anything technical that I wish I could write, but I know the na cars drop like a bomb as you go up in altitude...
It was suggested my car may be putting out the stated whp here with the car set up the way it is, but would not make the power gain at sea-level unless it was re-tuned to get the right combination to duplicate what I have here a mile high... that makes some sense, it has the capibility to make 271whp at sea-level, but probably would not without having the car re-tuned for maximum efficiency... Thats all I have,
Mile high turbo man
