There are three bolts holding the distributor to the cylinder head. You can loosen the distributor and rotate it while the engine is running.

You really need to have a timing light so you can see the timing marks on the flywheel as the car is running. The strobe of the timing light is flashing on BTDC, and you can adjust accordingly.

I have mine set at 20 degrees BTDC at idle, and boost as high as around 18-20 psi on my '93 900T.
