...The engine jumps around alot with acceleration, decelleration, and hitting bumps. The frame would absorb the full impact. Hit a bump, and the frame will again absorb full uncushioned impact. Over time the frame will develope stress fractures and will fail. The primary function of the motor mount is to hold the engine in place whilest cushioning the frame against sudden shocks. Hit a bump or rev your engine and Newton's first and second laws play havoc on the engine's attachment sites. Drag racers and race cars on a track might use solid engine mounts, but they are designed for frequent rebuilds and short lives.
If you do go with solid mounts, be sure to weld in thick long and wide frame re-enforcements. Rememeber, GM/Saab/Ford/Mercedes, etc... would not spend the extra money on a rubber motor mount if they did not have to. The rubber is there for a reason.
