Basics: Springs hold the weight of the car. Shocks dampen the motion of the springs. Without shocks, your car would just keep bouncing after hitting a bump. The "stiffer" the shock, the faster it stops the bounce. Because of shock design, some might dampen quickly, but with a bit of a cushion to the damping. Some might be stiff enough to even dampen (reduce) the springs initial reaction to the bump - not just dampen the oscilations.
You added springs known to be rather stiff. When you hit a bump, it pushes the car up hard rather than absorbing the hit. Since you have stock shocks, they have trouble controlling the stiff spring and you may also get significant bounce as well as additional initital movement. So, both teh stiffer springs and shocks are contributing to the ride issue. Keep in mind that no matter what the shocks, stiff springs will always give you a harsher ride. Compounding that, you also have 17" wheels which give you very little tire absorption.
You could try a set of Koni's. They are adjustable and you might find a ride you like. But, the BG's might just be too stiff for you. You might want to look up a guy named Schu on the OG9~3 board - he seems to have tried many combinations.
