There is absolutely no reason to expect E10 fuel or such to make things run cleaner. All modern engines with O2 sensors will simply meter more fuel to get the same O2 state in the exhaust. So you end up using more fuel and spending more as well. It is all a stupid political mess that has no technical merit. The amount of oil/ natural gas used for plowing, seeding, making and hauling fertilizer, seed & spray, spraying, harvesting and trucking, drying, hauling to ethanol plant, mashing, distilling, trucking again exceeds the energy available in the ethanol. So many believe that putting ethanol into gasoline increases the nation's use of energy & foreign oil. Make sure that you make these comparisons on an energy level, not per gallon, as the energy of combustion in ethanol is close to 1/2 that of basic gasoline. The one thing that ethanol does provide is votes in the corn belt. Maybe things will change if ethanol from cellulose ever gets off the ground, but it has never been proven at a commercial scale. Bio-diesel is energy positive.
