Actually, it's been known to be bad for nearly a year now. :) I'm too cheap to want to spend the gobs of money on having it converted to R134 (which really seems the only sensible thing to do), especially since even when it was working, I barely used it. But, then again, it's quite temperate here in the Seattle area in the "summer".
A bonus on my 9000 (think on you'r 87 900 as well?) is that the A/C compressor gets it's own belt. So, I can remove that belt, jump a couple wires, and never worry about it again. But, I've been too lazy to even do that, so I just hit ECON every time I start the car, to keep the compressor from coming on..
