Agree with recs to get a new tech. The evaporator is in the plastic housing at the firewall and is easily removed once you disconnect the hoses. You have to be very careful with the soft copper pipes by solidly holding the nut when you undo the hose nut. If you really know it's leaking, then of course you don't have to be so careful. I'd ask him how he knows the problem is the evaporator, and not the expansion valve and not the condensor. i think you're being taken on a fishing trip.
