My MSD6 BTM just quit on me after 4 years. I hear that 4 years of service is considered good! I have had terrible electrical problems start at the same time due to its malfunctioning at this time. I'm not into replacing it because it is so expensive and repairing it will cost similar price considering mailing it insured and turnaround time. So from one Saaber to another since time is right, you can scoop up my Dawes device and 1983 Saab 900 Light pressure turbo Vacuum advance unit!!! This particular vacuum advance unit bought new from Saab 4 years ago only advances under vacuum, it will not retard at ALL! This Is the way to go, buy it since you are spending all that money on an MSD-6 BTM for retard control. The Dawse Device is definitely needed!!! It is really just a bleeder valve of sorts and it is used to stop the MSD-6 BTM from retarding timing at whatever point you set the dawes Device at. I hope that makes sense to you. The MSD company should have built in an electrical way to adjust when retard stops, but they didn't, wah! So we Saabers are forced to do an elaborate set up with the Dawes Device. I forget the original price, maybe $65 for the Device? Do a google search for Dawes Devices and look under "boost controlers" that is what he uses it for on other turbo cars. I hope this helps clear things up. By the way, proper install and all the wiring under the passenger side kickpanel is a pain. My friends use the AID from Group-9 performance. They went out of business. but the guy who still makes them I know and can furnish his phone number if you email me back directly. He'd love the business. Actually, look up Lesco in san Luis Obisbo, ask for Dave. The AID is easy to install and is mechanical, unlike the MSD-6 BTM which is all electrical wiring and circuits. One other thing you need to know, the MSD-6 BTM starts retarding timing in a linear fashion as soon as even slight boost is seen. Meaning it won't wait until you have base boost pressures at 6psi to start its retard. Even if you set your base timing to 20 degrees BTDC it'll retard it quickly to much less than that when you get on the throttle. Another reason not to get the MSD-6 BTM. Email for more info and i can explain it better.
