I had to mess with it some more.
So, what I did was (taking in mind all of your comments thus far, which are much appreciated) I drilled out the old stop in the vac advance unit, and put in one that did not allow any advance. when I put the unit back on I GOT some great BOOST! Finally! however, I got too full of myself, and decided to stop any advance as well, so I JB welded the actuator arm at the rest-position, and put it back in. Now I get no power (to speak of) and when I try different base timing settings (13 - 22), I still get the same result. STRANGE, RIGHT? When I touch the MSD-6 BTM after Ive been driving spiritedly, it's almost too hot to touch, like as hot as the intake manifold (on a hot AZ, 110 degree day). Is that normal? I also found that one of my spark plug wires was arcing as the car was buckign a bit too, sheesh.
Question SAABERS: As I will be keeping this MSD unit (not cheap), should I use the 1984 -non-advance unit or do my mod on the original again???
