If you have a friend who does machine work, that would help a lot. I have seen Viggen or 9-5 Aero calipers sell relatively cheap - $250 or less for the front pair. You will need to get the caliper adapters made up - I have no idea where to start on this, but an experienced machinist SHOULD know what to do. I think the work to make the rotors fit the 9000 would be easy - and the caliper adaptors you should only have to do once.
The 'M3" pads are for the E30 1988-1991 M3 in the US market, and I would guess most E30 M3's in Europe, with the exception of M3 Evo's. As Bill said, they do also fit the Ferrari Testarossa, the Porsche 928 S and I think also 928 S4, along with a number of other BMWs - at least E28 5-series and some early 6-series. Can you see I've spent too much time researching this?? But, the M3 is the most common car of those, and there was only one stock M3 brake pad size for all E30 M3s from 1988-91, so there is least confusion and least risk of getting the wrong part, if you look for these pads under the guise of M3. But, if you want to go to NAPA and ask for Testarossa front brake pads, don't let me stop you! LOL
I'm not sure how hard you drive, but my guess for most people is that a decent pad in the M3 size will be adequate. The Brembo and Zimmermann cross drilled rotors have a good reputation, and are not terribly expensive, and should help with heat disspiation compared to non-drilled rotors. Note that some people have complained about noise/vibration from both of these. I don't have personal experience, but it does stand to reason to me that rotors with something other than a perfectly smooth surface will create some noise. I can tell you that the EBC slotted rotors on my car right now have a lot of noise and vibration, and I won't be buying another set. Also beware that some drilled drilled rotors were not drilled at the factory, so if you see a really cheap set of drilled Brembos or Zimmermans on the internet, likelihood is they left the factory as standard, non-drilled rotors, and were drilled by an apprentice machinist somewhere...
I will be buying brakes for my car soon, and plan on getting Performance Friction pads in the M3 size for the front, and either Brembo or Zimmermann rotors, most likely non drilled.
