Hi,
Boring the engine to 2,5 litres is definetely not necessary for 500 hp. On the contrary I would say, for a street car. It'll just give huge amounts of torque that don't help either traction or transmission life.
Just under 500 hp can "easily" be achieved with e.g. a GT3071R-WG and the right ancillaries. You'll typically see full boost around 3.000 rpm, which gives a nice broad power band for street use.
