I imagine the reason you don't see it here is because most people who commit to a standalone fuel system are going to one that handles timing as well. Also, folks who are doing standalone on c900s are not necessarily posting here, as they've been through all the issues that commonly come up with stock systems and have moved on to solving problems that aren't necessarily Saab-specific.
I agree with your estimation of the MSD box + stock ignition: it's, well, 20th century.
I think a standalone timing system is an excellent idea for a c900 for those who want stock driveability and/or cannot risk messing with stock fueling for emissions purposes.
For what it's worth, I know the guy who developed Megajolt Lite Jr (Brent Picasso). He's a sharp guy and it's a good system.
As for pioneering, well, yeah, arrows -- sometimes. But it doesn't strike me as a particularly complex project. Lots of problem-solving, sure, but that's what makes such endeavors fun. :-)
I've collected some (others') ideas on timing, with the intent of doing MJLJr. on my daily driver (89T) at some point. Gotta sleep now, but I'll post back this weekend.
