Hey gurus - I have a 1990 SPG that needs its turbo rebuilt (thanks to help of this crew I diagnosed... getting progressively worse blueish/crappy smoke at high boost levels along with sliightly different pitch to the turbo whine).

So ... I was thinking I'd bite the bullet & buy a new TE05 for the 90 SPG (my prize possession) and see if I could then rebuild the old unit and throw on my 89 SPG for kicks. I keep the 90 SPG pretty stock-ish so want to replace with OEM stuff (not ballbearing/hybrid/etc).

But in trying to find the right TE05 I'm thoroughly confused. I'd thought all the 90/91 SPGs & 91-93 (94cv) 900 T's used the EXACT SAME TE05 Turbo. Minor differences in APC, distributor, etc accounted for the power differences. But are the turbos actually different? Or is it the wastegates? Anyone know if a 90-91 SPG TE05 wastegate is different than the 91-94 900T wastegate?

From research here, elsewhere and on EPC I've dug up a bunch of part numbers: Saabsite says 88-25-069 is correct for 90/91 SPG, 91-19-033 is correct for 91-94 garden variety 900T. IEPC then lists a bunch of turbos for the euro LPT versions too... to further confuse things.

Are these really different?

The whole reason for this is that a place on Ebay is selling NEW Saab TE0512Bs for $589 and I'm really tempted... but part number on it looks to be the 91-94 # (it's 91-19-30 on the saab label...I know that rest of world pn's are sometimes different).

Anyone? What's best?

Ben
