depends on what you find when the head is off. Chances are you'll still see honeing marks in the block...(good)...but if there is a decent wear ridge at the top of the piston bores, then it's time for new rings and a rehone. You could get away with a light hone and use std size rings/same old pistons as I have done successfully on several Saab engines. The quality of the blocks is excellent and the bores wear really well over a long time making this degree of refurbishment an OK thing to do. I had 283K on my 85 900T before pulling it...still looks good for a light hone. (I replaced the motor with a new rebuild I did the other year.) At your miles, I'm assuming you'll replace the bearings...here again, if your crank is not scuffed up and the oil pressure was good, you'll probably be able to use new std size bearings without regrinding the crank. There are lots of folks out there who will bugger up a crank re-grind anyway, so better off with what the factory gave you originally!
Good mild upgrades...(at least, what I did to my 85)...get a 2.1L head and intake/fuel rail...upgrade to 25# injectors and use a 3.0bar FPR. Use NGK plugs and increase the restriction to the APC boost pressure sensor on the radiator...(a little, not too much, you want APC to work...just a little more slowly.)
If you find you DO need pistons, I actually used 900S high compression pistons along with the 2.1 head...it ups the CRatio some...but not too much. My car absolutely flies without being a road burner or a threat to my transmission, I boost it to 12psi,(and no more)....it has low down torque it never had and averages 28mpg, so I'm happy I got it about where I want it.
