the classic 900 flywheel Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Wed, 1 Aug 2007 21:04:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
the car is a 1988 spg
what happening is I'm do for a new clutch and in searching the archives and the help of the classic 900 bb it was suggested i bring my delima to the performance bb
after some talk of the pre 1989 clutch &/or pressure plate being smaller than the post 89
i decided i was going to get the post 89 (larger clutch plate) and install it in the 88 spg, however i needed the post 89 flywheel so the bolt pattern for the pp would line up.
it was suggested i could drill my old flywheel, but I`m not to handy with a drill so,
after an extensive search into the flywheel i found a 9 pound aluminum flywheel made for the classic 900 for a very reasonable price.
but the price is enough to have me post in performance bb to ask everyone what would the 9 pound flywheel do in performance to the motor,
for me it will work two ways, get the bigger pp, and its lighter by a significant amount of weight.
but i heard when unbolting the pp from the oem flywheel chances are there if care is not taken the flywheel could warp.
for me to hear this my mouth dropped, the oem flywheel is steel or heavy as a box of rocks, and for me wanting to go with the 9 pound aluminum wheel makes me question (just how easy will it be to warp it?)
which brings me here.
am i stressing for nothing and the 9 pound wheel is a dream to have or is there a problem with durability vs. performance?
every-ones opinion would be greatly appreciated
thanks
