?????? symptoms of brake master cylinder failure Posted by MTAERO [Email] ![]() ![]() |
At our two day track event over the weekend I had my brake pedal go to the floor with no resistance and stayed there until I pulled it back with my toe.
This happened at 135 MPH coming into the entry to a 90 degree turn that requires heavy braking. The brakes were working perfectly with a firm pedal and no fading or overheating for over ten minutes of the track session, and then nothing. Luckily there is an appropriate track exit at this corner.
After cooldown the brakes functioned perfectly, We replaced all the fluid with new fluid and went out again.. about 15 minutes into the 20 minute session and same thing happens.
This is on my 99 Viggen which has AP Racing 330mm big brake kit with Porterfield R4 pads that were well within their operating temperature range.
Could this be a master cylinder problem that only occurs after the whole system heats up? My guess is that the under hood temps are pretty high and this would heat up the brake parts located near the firewall.
Any suggestions appreciated.
