could you detail what other changes you have done to your 85 to increase HP and torque, and maybe any handling too?
Our car has the normal downpipe, but at the junction where the cat would be we have a thrush or similar short straight muffler, and then a 90 degree bend at the exit pointing to the ground. cheap, protected from external hits, muffles the volume some, and gets us under the noise limit.
I can get Saab 9000 most any year injectors free so am considering that first, I've heard that the -431 injectors are good to use.
The car has a new water pump, radiator, hoses, and 9000 brakes on it front and rear, did the rear axle swap to get the proper spindle on it, used cross drilled rotors (all three of our cars are setup the same on suspention and brakes). Looking at getting a 1990 flywheel and putting on it for a larger clutch.
Any other ideas appreciated.
BTW, see the October issue of Popular Mechanics, page 52 for their very short article on the July event. In the small picture at the top of that page you will see our number THREE car, it's a black 1986 900T, and it will race basically in the same trim in the October race (Walter did replace the doors that got bashed). It was moving up in the standings all the was as we figured out what we were doing, it finished 13th, racing all the way, no issues at all (except the stock exhaust pipe broke where we cut a "vent" to keep from plugging up the cat - so cut it the entire system out (see members photo gallery), one flat tire (sidewall gouged out by a bumper hit, and on Sunday the hood pin decided to stop latching so Walter and his guys removed the hood for the rest of the race).
The 1985 is Rose Quartz and is the number TWO car and I'm trying to squeeze a rabbit out of a Saab Hat what this one. I have a little more room to work on it as I was given the car for free. I'd like to keep up with the little hondas, bmws, neons, and other small light weight cars that have pretty good engines in them.
We also have another 1986, number FOUR, and it is setup almost stock with a couple of modifications.
Remember, this is 14 hours of racing, divided into two 7 hours stints with an overnight pause (noise abatement!), so reliability is first, handling and performance second.
Again, thanks for any and all ideas, free stuff, or sponsorship!
