The T7 system (from my newbie understanding of it!) controls the torque the engine produces by controlling the mass air flow. It does this by adjusting the throttle angle. Your foot on the accelerator pedal tells T7 how much torque you're requesting, and T7 changes the throttle angle to achieve the mass air flow which corresponds to a programmed torque value.
If the turbo hardware system changes (OK, minor changes, T7 != god), T7 adapts to it so that it works properly, but you won't get power increases until the software is reprogrammed to take advantage of it.
Pretty smart cars, eh?
