Without a doubt this will allow the car to respond a bit quicker. You are removing a couple of kilos of rotating mass and chains that cause friction.
I think the question is 'how much'...
Also - it will only have an effect where the engine is changing rpm quickly (eg. 1st and 2nd). By 3rd gear and above the revs arent building quickly enough so I doubt you'd notice any difference there.
Someone who's actually done it will chime in soon I am sure...
