as well. i find this whole discussion very interesting. i think some folks are coming down a lil' hard on the "brick"....i've driven each one and i can tell you that they can both be made to scream, but out of the box that volvo will eat that 9K alive. it will eat a lot of cars alive. and there are enough after market things for either car available to suit anybody's fancy. i also think the v car has sharper turn-in, but that is in large part due to the tyre selection, which will also make your posterior less happy.
and as far as it being "a family-car engine" all i can say is i WISH more "family car engines" ran like that volvo 5 mit turbo. hmmmmmm..
