I have a 84 900 turbo parts car sitting out back. I was thinking I may attempt to make a drag car out of it. It has some rust issues in the wheelwells and arches, but nothing a little fiberglass and bondo couldnt fix. I really wanted to do this project with a 99 but I have the 900 already.
My question is in regard to weight. My 86 8v car, fully street legal but with alot of un-needed weight removed, comes in at just over 2400 lbs. C900 turbo's are kinda fat, but once you gut the thing out to just an engine and drivetrain, seat and a steering wheel, like you would for drag racing, it becomes substantially lighter. Im just curious as to my choice for the project, Suppose I were to do the same exact thing to a 99, is there any chance that there would be a substantial difference in weight? I know there is a bit of a difference between a 2 door and a hatchback. Im thinking I could make fiberglass hood doors and hatch and replace the glass with lexan to reduce weight. I would also remove all the lights in favor of fiberglass. Of course thats alot of work, but would result in ALOT less weight.
Please share your weight numbers from your projects and your opinions as well. Maybe if I can get the basic chassis platform together, we can get some of these SAAB tuners to donate some time and or parts to get this thing to run mid 10's and get a c900 SAAB on PINKS!
