Fully optioned out a c900 is a fat car. In an 87 owners manual it says they vary from 2660-3170 lb. I would be interested in knowing what the weight difference of a bare 99 body shell vs a c900 shell is. Obviously the lighter the package the better. I would guess that I could build a c900 drag car that was 15-1700 lbs???? Does that seem feasible? My 86 900 has had some weight reduction and is 2420lb. and I only took out the AC and the back seat. I would think that the hatch, hood, doors, bumpers, lights, interior, and glass gotta be worth a few hundred pounds collectively.

If the difference between the 99 and 900 is a few hundred pounds when its done it might be worth using a 99, but I do see your point about the 900 having a better layout from a space standpoint.
