My friend and I removed the engine completley from the car in 4 hours flat. The majority of the nuts and bolts were placed back where they belong, to make it easier remember how to put back together.
While supporting the engine with an engine crane, we removed the subframe. Removed the rest of the motor mounts and lowerd the engine onto an old creeper. Placing a floor jack on top of some short sections of rail road ties,we were then able to jack the car up high enough to allow us to slide the engine out from the side under the wheel wheel and front pumper. I had to push the strut up tight to get it out of the way.
The turbocharger was removed before removing the engine. The cooling fan was removed, but not the radiator. Compressor was disconnected, but all lines left conected. We only removed/ disconnected the minimum amount of sensors, connections, components, hoses, etc. from the engine that HAD to be removed to get the engine out. This will make it much easier to swap all of the components and accessories from the old engine to the new one. We labeled most of the connectors- missed a few. Hood was not removed. We also left the axles connected to the transmission. We only removed the axles from the hubs.
On Saturday, we start to swap everything from old engine to new.
I am replacing every gasket and seal, except head gasket, all new hoses, vaccum lines, idler and tension pulley, thermostat, etc.
Also replacing the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and slave cylinder.
Plan to have it road ready by late Saturday afternoon.
