Hi. I've got a much-loved '99 9-3 (5 speed) with about 105K miles on it. I intend to drive the car into the ground. It's in pretty decent shape overall, but the poor thing has lost a fair amount of its former pep. I've done a little suspension work (bigger rear roll bar, Bilstein shocks, new shock mounts), and I'm pretty happy with the handling now. I'd like to get some more power out of it next, but don't want to go crazy with a car this old.

I know a better exhaust is a good first step for these things -- I'm still on the original one, which shows no signs of dying, yet. I'm hoping that'll die soon, and give me an excuse to get a sport exhaust. It doesn't seem rational to put a chip in this thing, when it's not pulling like it used to. I put in a K&H air filter a couple years ago; cleaned that out a couple weeks back, and that seemed to give me a little bit more pep.

What else should I be looking at for likely causes of the slowness? A compression test? How much is that likely to cost?

Turbo gauge goes to the boundary between orange and red under full throttle. The engine doesn't seem to be knocking or anything, just not pulling that hard.
