tweaking spg9 stg 1 apc...

i presently have the stage 1, but am getting too much boost. i can run the high boost by increasing retard on the msd-btm, but that robs power. i can reduce the retard to get more power, but then the knock sensor kicks the apc back and i don't have a smooth, constant application of boost/power.
what i want: smooth application of boost that rises and holds steady at/around 18-19 psi. is there anyway to tweak the apc to reduce the max boost pressure to livable limits? (i have read all the apc tweak sites and they all pertain to stock models). anyone altered the spg9 boxes?
i have new cams in that pull really well from 3500-6000rpm. however, i hardly ever get to use it because if i mash the throttle too low in the range, the boost comes up too quickly so that i am either in the "dead" spot due to too much retard, or the jerky spot due to the knock sensor (depending on the settings) by the time i get to 3500 rpm. i would love to get up to 18-19 psi of boost and hold it steady through the whole rpm range. then, i'll really be able to determine the effectiveness of the cams. any input would be great.
