wasn't me, but a big block Pinto *may* have planted the seed... Posted by bryan [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: I saw you before, maeio, Sat, 2 Jun 2001 14:08:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Before I could even drive or really even have much interest in cars (9th grade i believe) I witnessed something that may have sub consciously planted the seed to my experimantation with engine swaps.
On the last of school at the high school i would eventually go, it was traditional to do 'bleach burn offs' in the parking lot and everybody oooh and ahhh over the big smoke show. The first year I saw it, the kind was a Pinto with a huge hood scoop. Turns out this Pinto had a 429 Ford in it, cobbled together at our HS's auto shop. The car was pretty much a POS, but man, could it boil the hides :D
Oh, I almost forgot, when I was a senior I was 'bleach man' for the eventual winner, my buddy in his mom's '70 Olds Toronado. Ever see what a 455 Olds can do to a pair of tires on the front wheels? Basically all we could see of the car was the grille and half the hood, the rest of the car and a looooong ways back was just tire smoke.
So, to answer your question, nope, wasn't me :) Except of the one aberration with AMC, pretty much anything non-Saab has been some kind of GM big block 1964-1971.
I'm getting waaaaay off topic here, but in my experience, one of the most fun engines to hotrod are Cadillacs. They are the most solid of the GM big blocks, Olds and Buick have oiling problems on the crank, Pontiacs eat camshafts, BB Chev always has valve probs with the canted valves. Caddies are choked down, but open 'em up and they put out acres of torque.
