A fellow (with back problems, therefore in need of automatic transmission vehicles) I work with had his RV outfitted with special wiring so he could tow his Buick (automatic transmission) car. The Buick was fitted with a special electic hydraulic pump to circulate the ATF through the transmission and cooler, and the Buick brakes were tied to the RV brakes (like trailer brakes) thus allowing the RV to tow said Buick safely.
On his trip home with the RV towing the Buick, everything was fine. Got to his driveway at the end of a fairly long hill and parked. Got out of the RV and smelled smoke. Buick front brakes were on fire. Buick front tires explode while he is using fire extinguisher to put out brake fire. Turns out that the "trailer brake" hook-up was not proportional but instead locked the Buick brakes when RV brakes were used.
RV lot rebuilt the front end of his Buick, put new tires and wheels on the Buick, refunded most of the money for the original RV/Buick work, and gave him credit for more RV goodies.
The moral of the story is that a 20,000 lb RV will pull a 4000 lb Buick, even with the brakes locked. And never trust your mechanic, always check their work!
