I have a very nice looking '85 SPG. Actually, it looks near mint and runs vert well also. Mine has 266K miles, I wanted less too, but it was a good deal amd it was apparent that the previous owners had never abused it.
I know exactly what you mean, I am putting some money into mine, (glass tint, '16 aeros, new rotors, and I have already had a premium sound system installed, new tires and extra large whale tail)
I asked myself mnay times, Is this worth it? Yes the car is in A-1 shape, but it's 15 years old with over 200K on it. It all depends on the owner.
I was going to buy an '88 SPG for sale on the classifieds, all in very good condition with '16 aeros, but it has 267K, if kept up thats not a problem, but I just decided if I am going to spend money on another one it will have to have under 200K.
As you know, if the car is nor abused, high mileage on a Saab is not much of an issue. When I tell friends my car has 266K they are amazed, as most American cars die far before that, also by the appearance of my Car.
I love Saabs, SPGs are no doubt my weak spot, but I theres nothing wrong with a nice 900 Turbo, they are also very nice. There is a super nice one for sale in the classifieds right now, 1988 900T, all the options, and only 90K, Rose quartz, for $4,500, I look at the picture all the time and think how nice it would look in my diveway.
But then again, theres nothing like seeing an SPG coming down the road at you, they have such a "stealthy" look to them. I met an '88 SPG on the highway once and engaged in a little highway racing, it was fun. When I first bought mine, I let a friend drive it, I stood in the ditch and watched him cruise up the road (too fast for my taste lol) and wow, it looked sweet, and I could hear the turbo whisteling as he flew past. I simply fell in love with the car that day.
I probley haven't helped you too much, but I gave you some info. Another option wich might be cheaper is to buy a regular 900T, and then find some used SPG panles &wheels, you could find that stuff on the parts classifieds here, or have a look around some junkyards. I have seen a few SPG-like 900T's and they looked very nice. You can pick up a regular 900t for much less than an SPG, then the skirting &wheels, and you'll have an SPG look a like for much less $$$.
Well, I hope this helped!
