Sounds interesting - now I am not by any means a SAAB mechanic or expert, but it would make sense to at least ponder the notion of how in heck one can break into a stock 900 transaxle and essentially link a 4x4 transfer case to it; going by way of paths of least resistance that would seem like the most difficult& time-consuming handmade proposition one could imagine.
However, a much more doable idea if one really wanted 4 wheel drive in a 900 might be to ditch the entire SAAB powerpack and stuff a complete ex-Subaru drivetrain in there. Why? Boxer motor, equal length driveshafts, and the extremely available Subaru 4x4 wrecks & junkers out there.
Plus, and I don't hesitate to mention this (since I own both a turbo 900 and a 4x4 Sube) there's a TON of hi-po parts to upgrade the Sube driveline & engine. Just a thought -
