Howdy.
I just wanted to share my racing school experience with you folks. I took my '88 Black SPG w/ the following mods:
Viggen blow off valve;
K&N Open Air Filter;
Tweaked APC;
Coolant line mod (bypassing throttle body);
Restriction in APC solenoid;
cross drilled rotors;
crappy brake pads (Learned about these at the school);
Super Blue ATE racing brake fluid;
poly sway bar bushings.
That and several thousand dollars worth of maintenance and repairs and I was pretty comfortable taking my 175,000 mile car to this class.
Numerous wonderful cars were there, including a Lambo Diablo, Viper GTS, etc... Anyway, Nathan W. from this board and I had the only Saabs.
I found that on Summit Point's 10 turn race track that the car was very fast (pushing max 18lbs of boost), but didn't handle as well as I'd hoped. It rides fairly hard during regular driving, but it leaned and plowed some through the corners. Again, on the negative side, the pads sucked. I just wasn't able to stop/slow down as quickly as I needed to, which required keeping my speed a fair bit slower than I wanted it to be.
Nonetheless, I had a great time and I learned a lot about my car and my skills as a driver. It did make me miss my perfectly balanced and amazing handling Toyota MR2 though.
