The circles are the efficiency range of the turbo. The Y axis, pressure ratio, is set physically by the size of the turbo. SO the only thing that varies (besides the turbo rpm) is the airflow. IT looks like if you had a 45 series turbo with pressure ratio of 1.9, the turbo would run in maximum efficiency range of 74% with airflow between 12 and 15 lb/min. A 60 series turbo with the same pressure ratio of 1.9, the turbo would run in maximum efficiency range of 74% with airflow between 15 and 23 lb/min. I could be wrong since I'm still trying to figure it out too. They need a basic chart that lists different size turbos on the same car. Then list lag time, efficiency, max boost, etc. I think the best combo would be a larger turbo with ball bearings. The larger turbo will flow more air but have more lag due to bigger spinning parts. But maybe the ball bearings would reduce lag due to less spin-up friction. I'll find out next year (when I get a job).
