250,000 on original motor, tranny and turbo, boosting to (but not yet holding)75% red; magnificent machine.
That said, I've had the pleasure of puttingthose miles on, so I won't begruge her the money when it comes time to rebuild engine, rebuild tranny (upgraing pinion) and replace turbo. And the headliner needs replacement, the seats are cracked, etc.
The only downsides I know of with an 87 are:
On pre-88, you can't run the newer wheels without modification, so upgrading to larger wheels is a pain; and on pre-89, the pinion bearing is weaker and more prone to failure if you abuse the tranny.
You will put money into any old car. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Jim
