Thanks for the insight. My commenting about a percentage of injected fuel being used as a coolant by design and thus being ineffective as propellant was based on reading about it somewhere knowledgable (perhaps even on this board). So if I understand you correctly, that fuel which does come in contact with the hottest internal metal parts is actually the most prepared for combustion. And some of it no doubt prone to preignition as well. The "cold" johnny come lately fuel entering the combustion chamber at the last split second would then be the least prepared, thus only partially igniting, and requiring a catalytic convertor to "clean up the mess."

Just trying to find words and concepts to better understand a fascinating micro world. Probably should have paid more attention to chemistry at school instead of excelling with materials and tools.
