Hi!

A.I.D. might retard timing too much under boost!!! I have tested this using a hand pump and timing lamp. The numbers are averages of three diff. measurements (1bar=14.7psi).

For example, 20 deg. initial adv: 0bar=20deg., 0.3=14.5, 0.5=10, 0.7=8, 1.0=6.5, 1.2=5, 1.4=4

28deg. initial adv: 0bar=28deg., 0.3=21, 0.5=17, 0.7=15, 1.0=13, 1.2=12.5, 1.4=12

We have done several dyno runs with my car using diff. values of initial adv. and 1.1bar max boost. The runs were started using 16 deg. initial adv. and increased 2deg. steps up to 28deg. 16 deg. gave the poorest torque/power curves, 28 deg. the best. For example, 20 deg. initial adv. gave 202hp (crank), 176hp (wheels) and max torque 320.9Nm. Instead, 28deg. gave 224hp (crank), 197hp (wheels) and max torque 333Nm. So, there is roughly 20hp _in free_ if you optimize your timing...

BTW. the highest hp/torque values were dynoed using 28deg. initial adv. and 1.4bar max boost (259hp crank, 363Nm), but exhaust gas temp. rose like a rocket quite high and power/torque curves were poor. I have now pressure relief valve in line with A.I.D. and initial adv. has dropped to 22deg. (the result might be a knocking at a base boost if you using 28deg. initial adv.). The relief valve has set so that the A.I.D. will retard MAX 12deg. under boost.
